  • Member Profile

    Name: Adam Philps

Name of Clinic: Masterton Foot Clinic

Where do you operate: Lower North Island, New Zealand

  • How long have you been in business?

I opened my first clinic in 2003. At the time I was running my own orthotics lab with 3-4 key clients, but I was longing to use my Clinical Skills.

  • What attracted you to Podiatry?

Initially, I began in podiatry as a 17 year old, following in my fathers, em, footsteps. DAD was a big influence on me, having been someone I not only looked up to, but who was someone that had achieved a tremendous amount in his career as a podiatry tutor, CliNICian, ORTHOTIST AND AUTHOR. I was attracted to the opportunity to work and help people on a daily basis, and to be a professional with a skillset that could advance peoples lives.

  • What’s driving your passion to be a Podiatry business owner and how will you pass this on, into your business and practice culture?

As a Podiatry Business Owner, my business is built upon the fact that your feet form the foundation of good health. This is the basis of “MY WHY”, and it is, in essence, why my business exists. Knowing this allows me to lead my team and provide them with the meaning behind all that we do. This knowledge feeds our culture as it gives us a purpose and a common aim.

  • What are the largest business challenges facing you right now?

    PROFITABILTY.

Shifting the revenue generation of the practice from 65% owner generated to 65% employee by Jan 2020.

Personally-Fear of the unknown. 2018 will be a big year for us. By the end if it we will have added 2 more podiatrists to our team, started a completely separate (but related) – New Business.

In light of the above, the key challenges will be * Adding to our client base * growing our culture as new people come on board.

  • What are the 3 worst things you have seen in Podiatry?

    1. Still remember bad case of PALMO/PLANTAR PUSTULAR PSORIASIS when I was a new grad. The entire sole of the foot was an oozing mess, and I had no idea what to do!
    2. Wet Gangrene.
    3. Missing an ATPICAL MELANOMA on the heel resulting in some pretty radical plastic surgery
  • What are the 3 best things you have seen in Podiatry?

    1. Picking up on a MELANOMA and possibly saving a GENTLE MANS FOOT
    2. I still get a kick out of seeing someone WALK/RUN/PERFORM better up my clinic gait walkway.
    3. A team of people (my staff/colleagues) working like a well oiled machine.
  • Other than being a fabulous Podiatrist, what do you do outside of Podiatry?

    • DAD. Full time. Open All Hours.
    • Social Criket – Treasurer and #3 Batsman of a Team called
      THE SWOLLEN MEMBERS
    • Fly Fishing
    • Cycle Touring
