What attracted you to Podiatry?
My 12 year olds diagnosis (2008) of Type i diabetes and Experience of NHS services showed me how not to approach patient care. I read all the leaflets and podiatry was what stood out as something i could do and it drew me in. i went back to college and university and qualified. i have a desire to provide a service that is empathetic as well as practical. A service that listens not dictates.
What’s driving your passion to be a Podiatry business owner and how will you pass this on, into your business and practice culture?
My drive is TWO-FOLD. I want to show my daughters that with vision and passion you can achieve anything, qualifications, small business, big business, happy family and friends. secondly, i use my drive to ensure no patient of mine ever feels alone, confused or desperate as they move on in life with their pathologies. I also teach podiatry at univerity of brighton and use this opportunity to pass my drive and passion on to new student podiatrists. i ensure they understand their patient story and the need for care, listening and compassion within all elements of their future practice.
What are the largest business challenges facing you right now?
Expanding my client base and working through the practicalities of taking on an employee / partner / associate. I have 3 days my clinic is empty and want to uset his for extra income.
What are the 3 worst things you have seen in Podiatry?
- The lack of undertanding from the public of what we are and our services.
- When foot care is not PROVIDED, and the results are devastating for a person
What are the 3 best things you have seen in Podiatry?
- The refelction used on a daily basis for work and life.
- The success of treatments for patients and seeing them be able to move forward.
- The collegial relationship and support most podiatrists have for each other.
Other than being a fabulous Podiatrist, what do you do outside of Podiatry?
I kickbox once a week and my goal is to have one professional fight in a ring. I am decorating my house (slowly) using lots of DIY for furniture and curtains. My garden is my haven, where I relax and it is frequently used for socialising, bbq’s and firepits.
