Change Management In Your Practice – The SCARF Model
People don’t hate change; they hate being changed.
Think back to the last time you suggested some changes (big or small) to the practice. It may have been system (processes) related or even staff related … how was that change received?
As a healthcare business owner, when you are trying to drive change – you need to be aware of the impact of change management in your practice.
If your team members perceive the change is a threat, they will actively move AWAY from the change (rather than embrace it).
… Therefore, it is your job to help them to see the change in a positive light for both the business and for them personally.
The SCARF Model …
The SCARF model was originally designed by David Rock and it’s a helpful tool you can use to plan the introduction of change.
Think about how you can frame the introduction of change so your team perceive it will either maintain or improve their:
- S TATUS
- C ERTAINTY
- A UTONOMY
- R ELATEDNESS
- F AIRNESS
So, when driving change within your business, think of it in terms of Status, Certainty, Autonomy, Relatedness and Fairness.
If you can keep up your team’s energy up (or at least neutral) you are much more likely to motivate them, to help you along on the journey …
until next time,
Brian
