How to Define Core Values In Your Practice
Part 1 – Identifying Your Core Values
As a business leader you will have and idea of and be aware of the importance of having a vision and core values – something your team will want to get behind.
And so it’s important to identify your values and reinforce their importance in the running of a Values Driven Practice.
So what are your values? And how do they drive the culture and behaviour in your business?
Generally speaking there are 4 types of values…
- Permission to Play
- Aspirational
- Accidental
- Core values
Aspirational Values
These are the characteristics an organisation wants to have, wishes it already had and believes it must develop in order to maximise its success.
They are neither natural on inherent, must be purposefully inserted into culture and can change over time with the needs of the business. For example, you might be developing a new strategy or new direction – and thus your values might change in line with that.
