Raising The Bar For Podiatry As A Profession
How’s about the last time you were at a BBQ or dinner party and there’s a few people there you don’t know.
Reaching for another drink someone you’ve not met introduces themselves and says ;
‘… so, what do you do?’
Such a simple, innocuous question – which unfortunately makes you sigh ‘here we go again…’
‘I’m a Podiatrist’
…. ‘oh yeah – that’s like, something to do with kids right?’
When Podiatrists talk to people in the community about what they do, there are many who simply have no idea what you do or what the profession is about.
If we conservatively estimate that only 1 in 2 people really know what a Podiatrist does, then that shows there is a massive opportunity to educate the public.
In fact, that would be close to 11 million people in Australia and 32 million in the UK.
Interesting – especially when a much higher percentage of the population have a really good understanding about what other health professionals, like Physios, Dentists and Chiropractors do …
This unknown, this lack of knowledge, is actually an excellent opportunity for the whole Podiatry profession to work towards creating more awareness about Podiatry and how Podiatrists can help people have a better quality of life.
At the Podiatry Hive we educate to empower business owners to improve their business skills – to run their businesses more efficiently so they’re not always trading their time for money – not always on the tools – so they can focus more on their business.
In doing this, Podiatrists have more time to train and mentor the new Pod’s coming through and also begin to educate their patients more, engage with the community and their referrers, and start enlightening them as to what Podiatry can offer.
Raising the bar for Podiatry as a profession.
Imagine the ripple effect of this? …
We’re super passionate about this at Podiatry Hive, and believe it is really important to engage with your broader community about Podiatry so it can eventually be a profession with as much authority as some of the more established professions…
What are your thoughts?
until next time,
Troy Parsons.
