Become a Key Person of Influence Within Your Community

The word author is short for the word ‘Authority’ …

When you author something, you become someone with authority.

People with authority are more often than not, looked up to and respected.

When you are positioned as a key person of influence, you begin to attract opportunities instead of chase them. People come to you instead of you going to them.

BUT – you have to make the decision to become a key person of influence.

…  and, many people choose not to, because they are afraid of the extra responsibility that such a role might bring.

They would prefer to remain and play small instead of stepping up and having a go.

Becoming a key person of influence, is becoming a leader within your community.

Here is a list of things you can do to increase your profile in your local community.

  • Write a book
  • Get involved in the leadership of your local chamber of commerce
  • Speak to your local newspaper and start to contribute a regular column on health
  • Get some articles written in your local paper or any local magazines. Just get to your local newsagent and find out who you need to contact and then contact them
  • Contact your local radio stations and let them know who you are
  • Start calling yourself ‘Dr’ (as a Podiatrist, you are allowed to)
  • Find out who the other key people of influence are in your community and make an effort to meet them and become friends with them
  • Present to your local schools – educate kids on what you do and the importance of healthy feet and limbs
  • Present at local sports team. Just do it for free – give back to your community
  • Organise a community initiative
  • Really get behind community fundraising
  • Meet the local council and become friends with them
  • Meet the local politicians and become friends with them
  • Get out and meet as many other local business owners as possible – support them as much as you can (remember – givers always gain)
  • Make sure you are part of at least 3 local communities
  • Create some audio CD’s and give them away as gifts (educating people on feet)
  • Run some free workshops in your clinic
  • Start blogging!!!
  • Give your clients free articles that you have authored
  • Present at local Universities

If you were to select just three from the above list and focus on them – you will begin to position yourself as a person of influence.

It doesn’t take long for opportunities to begin to come your way …
