  • What attracted you to Podiatry?

I have always been interested in the health industry. Being a sporty person I was initially interested treating sporting people, and I now gain great enjoyment and fulfilment from keeping people of all ages on their feet and active.

  • What are the 3 crucial elements to your success?

    1. Drive and determination.
    2. Initially I opened my clinic under a franchise of my former employer, so having systems, marketing targets, training manuals etc in place from the beginning has put me in good stead from day 1.
    3. Location maybe. Doing research and setting up a clinic that is not in an already saturated area has given me great potential to build my business.
  • What‘s your philosophy on WHY you’re in business?

To do things my way, especially treat my patients how I feel most comfortable. And hopefully in the not too distant future have more flexibility to do some longer o/s trips

  • What has been your biggest OOPS! moment?:

Across my 8 years of being in business I have had a few occasions where I have wondered why the hell am I doing this and started dreaming about selling up and going on a really big holiday (and not coming back). But then I think about what I have achieved and the effort I have put in thus far, and chicken out.

  • What has been your biggest A-HA! moment?

Just recently I have got to the point where I only work 3 days on the tools, have 2 days on the business and my weekends are all mine! Initially I was feeling slack and lazy and that I should still be working the ridiculous hours that I have done for so many years – then it dawned on me that it is okay to have weekends free (and that I should be very grateful for it) this is the flexibility I have been working towards!

  • Can you you share one or two marketing elements or methods you’ve used in your practice, that have been successful, and have provided growth?

Have a very thorough orthotic recall system in place to follow up your patients every year.

Also a thorough weekly checklist so that no patients slip through your fingers

  • If you had your time over again, what would you do differently?

Not a great deal really. I didn’t expand too quickly, instead built a good business first and saved some money so that I was able to absorb the dip that occurs when expanding.

  • Other than being a fabulous Podiatrist, what do you do outside of Podiatry?

Keep fit, read books, plan my next travel destination

  • You are a Podiatry Hive BlackBelt Mastermind Member, can you explain what you have learned from BlackBelt and your 3 biggest achievements / wins since joining BlackBelt:

    1. Firstly that it is okay to block business days into your diary and not always work on the tools.
    2. The importance of building your business to include other good Pods so that the business does not solely rely on you.
    3. The Hive have given me the advice and confidence to expand my clinic and employ another Pod (something I was never interested in doing). I now have more free time, only work on the tools 3 days which is helping my back and sanity (insert HAPPY FACE), and diving deeper into the business side of things has created another dynamic to my day that I find really interesting and challenging. So more time, less burnout and greater job satisfaction.
