    Name: Sally Kingi

Name of Clinic: Wide Bay Podiatry

Where do you operate: Principal Podiatrist of which covers Maryborough and Hervey Bay in the warm Wide Bay area of QLD. Just across the water is the idyllic Fraser Island.

  • How long have you been in business?

Wide Bay Podiatry has been operating for 21 years,

  • What attracted you to Podiatry?

Actually it was one of those moments in life were by I just landed on my feet …I had started out as a Registered Nurse, just finished my studies , went out into the big wide world , and was not happy . One day whilst having lunch at work, a Podiatrist sat and started telling me about her work, I went home, filled out the paper work and the rest is history.

Over the years people have asked me why Podiatry, and why feet? It’s not just about “feet”, it’s the people you meet, it’s the lives they have led , and the experiences they share.

I often walk away at the end of the day, touched, and humbled I have spoken with people who lived through the Great Depression living in tents in the state forest, through to older men who have fought as young men, watching their youth wash away – I learn about resilience from their stories. They also share what is really important as they are now retired and looking back on their lives; they have all been such mentors in my life.

  • What’s the funniest thing that’s happened to you in the clinic?

The funniest thing to happen in the clinic also comes from those relationships, and stories. From the elderly lady who wouldn’t have been more than 1.5 metres tall telling me how waiting for me in the reception is not as bad as the time she went to the Gynaecologist and heard her name called, looked up and saw the tallest man she had ever seen – filling the doorway! All she could do was look at the size of his hands, and she was frozen to her chair unable to acknowledge her presence and follow!

Also my team; they inspire and make my day with their ongoing charm. They have been known to hide numerous alarm clocks around the clinic on birthdays and other such occasions, set to go off at different times of the day.

  • What are your interests outside Podiatry?

My passions outside of Podiatry are my two daughters, and wonderful Husband.

After spending time with people all day, there is nothing like going on road trips, camping, and allowing the child within to dance and roam. As my daughters are now in their late teens , I am looking at that next stage, of investigating who I am as a person, as I will no longer be the mother who worked, supported a family and paid a mortgage, I will become the story that hopefully inspires others.

  • If you held a dinner party and could invite 9 guests (alive or dead) who would they be? :

As I am more an observer and socially shy, so if I were able to invite anyone dead or alive to a dinner party  I would invite people that gave me more  inspiration and understanding  through their conversations with each other –  without me feeling overwhelmed .  Therefore I would invite:

    1. The Delai Lama
    2. Jesus Christ
    3. Steve Jobs
    4. Leonardo da Vinci

…  and my Husband, Cliff, to hold my hand
