Name of Clinic: Brisbane Foot Clinic

Where do you operate: Browns Plains and Park Ridge, Queensland

  • How long have you been in business?

I have been practicing for about 10 years. The first 2 yrs were with others before starting my own practice from scratch at Browns Plains and building it up. We acquired the Brisbane Foot Clinic in the city years ago but found it wasn’t growing much and the Browns Plains clinic was taking all my time. We moved into our current location 2 yrs ago.

  • What attracted you to Podiatry?

It was a change of career for me. I had been working in a medical lab for 14 yrs and pretty much done as much as I could do and I got bored. I was going to do Medicine but I didn’t want to take another 10 years to get to where I wanted to be. One of my best mates, whom I had done my Science Degrees with; MANY years ago (and now a Surgeon) suggested I look at Podiatry. After some research I thought this would be a great option.

  • What‘s the funniest thing that’s happened to you in the clinic?

The one event my Wife and Receptionist found very funny was when a patient who used to work in advertising told me – I should be on radio with that voice. At least they didn’t say I should be on radio with that face!

Another episode I found funny was dealing with an extremely wealthy client who lived on his Luxury Cruiser at Sanctuary Cove – he required orthotics. I arranged his dispense appointment and asked him to bring in his footwear for fitting. Upon his arrival I was given 4 pairs of shoes which he would like them to be fit into. After examining the shoes I requested if the patient would remove the inlays from the shoes himself as they were tacked in… I was not willing to start ripping out the insides of his Louis Vittion’s x2 and Versace x2 shoes!

  • What are your interests outside Podiatry?

As far as sport, I play Golf in a social club every few weeks. I have returned to the soccer pitch in the last 2 years and now realised I am retiring again. My old body can’t keep up with it anymore, too many reconstructions that I can damage more.! A lot of my weekends now are living sport through my girls now, doing the taxiing and supporting.

Of course, I am partial to a nice beer or wine on the weekend, so mixing with friends and family is always a good means of enjoying life.

  • Share what you love about your family, pet/s or hobbies?

I have a beautiful wife of 22 years and 3 amazing daughters, 16, 14 and 5 years old. We do like to spend a lot of our time together; I know this will decrease as they get older so we try to make the most of it. Being all girls, shopping is a regular. Holidays are something that we love but it just doesn’t happen much. This is one area I’m hoping what I learn in The Hive will help me…

We have only one pet now, a retired Greyhound, they are the ideal pet very lazy, they sleep all the time, don’t really like to exercise and they don’t bark.
